(Paraphrasing, of course)
"Do you have the Witcher 2?"
"No, I have 1. Still in its box."
"It's on huge sale at GOG."
"Oh. Huh. ... yeah, but I have a zillion games in my backlog already. I have never played 75% of the games I own at GOG."
"If you have 1 you should get 2."
"I have had 1 for almost two years and still haven't played it. And I only have 1 because someone bought it for me, I think. If someone wants to buy 2 for me sometime, cool, but otherwise I should restrain myself to things I have some slim chance of using."
"It's only cheap today."
"It'll be cheap again someday."
"... this is true, and something these sales rely on you forgetting."

buried under backlog
I am so far behind in my gaming that when I went to GOG to redeem the gift someone sent me (the Back To THe FUture adventure games I'd been kinda interested in) I discovered a bunch of other games I'd purchased and totally forgotten about...

good old sales
The only thing that jumps out at me in the current promotion is the Journeyman Project which I've heard good things about but never looked into. However, backlog. Enh.

just what I needed
Arcanum is $3 on Good Old Games this weekend; I never did play it. GOodness only knows when I'll get to it. I haven't even been continuing with Icewind Dale lately because I've been frantically trying to write plot. But, you know, may as well add it to my collection...

a quest for meaning
This weekend's GOG sale is 'activision' (ZOMBIE SIERRA) quest games - King's Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest.
I went to a lot of trouble many years ago to find a legit police quest collection CD. After I did, I never actually played the games because they were a bit hard to get running smoothly on my computer setup at the time. (Similarly, I have obtained Leisure Suit Larry: Love For Sail but not gotten very far into it because running it was a little awkward.)
I never owned KQ7 afaik, but my then-boyfriend bought a copy, so I did play it through once. Means my memory of it is much hazier than it is for the others. Mask Of Eternity, which is a travesty and not KQ8 at all, I have not played. That probably doesn't surprise you.
And weekend sale or no, I don't think that's likely to change now.

G&G&D&D
Good old Games is doing a D&D sale at the moment, which means mostly a lot of games I've already played, but I never did own the Icewind Dales.
Not sure I'm desperate to do so right now either.
Interestingly, though, this sale takes account of games you've ALREADY bought when calculating your discount.
Also, I'm feeling a vague restlessness which is tempting me towards purchasing DLC for DA2, and an icewind dale game might be a better idea than that...

The Witcher
I actually have a box copy sitting on my shelf unopened because I am WAY TOO BUSY right now to get into it. Apparently it's also now available on GoG.
And apparently GoG is now helpfully letting you tell it where you live, in case of... unfortunate misunderstandings about pricing and geographic restrictions?

Planescape Torment
is now available on GoG. So I guess we have to slightly forgive them for being jerks. Or at least, chastise them while GETTING THE GAME OH COME ON JUST GET THE GAME YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT.
(I have a retail copy, but I may be badgering someone else I know into this.)

.... psyche?
So, Good Old Games has a 'we're closed' sign hanging on the front door.
i've not actually PLAYED the games I bought from them, mind, but I still liked having them there...
And I'm baffled, too, because I got the latest promo emails from them this week. So... huh?
Even more odd - there was literally ONE DAY between them eagerly exhorting people to buy their newest game and a vague farewell message.
There are rumors that this is some kind of crazy marketing stunt to intentionally get people upset so that they can ride a press buzz onto a relaunch.... but it's just rumor.
As expected, it really was just a PR stunt. I am not linking their stupid video because I'm too annoyed to watch even a silly video with monks in it.

that bites
The Vampire The Masquerade game has just gone to Good Old Games for the helpfully affordable price of $5.99
I never did play that...
(Oh wait, this is Redemption, not Bloodlines. It was Bloodlines I wanted to play. I think.)

mighty!
That's a lot of game.
I've never played any Might and Magic, actually. I suppose this could be a good time to consider it.

if you have more free time than I do
Upcoming title on Good Old Games that looks potentially interesting: Septerra Core Reviews suggest it's got a good plot but the graphics were a bit crap/outdated even when it was released. Not that that'll matter THAT much ten years later... on the other hand, if the combat is super-slow it may be too much of a drag. Sounds like a game that really needs a modder's touch. RPGFan mentions that there IS a patch for the game, but the site they link to is not currently offering it. GoG may have the patched version on offer when the game goes on sale, we'll just have to wait and see...

runaway adventures
New adventure game on Good Old Games - Runaway. I haven't played it and have heard vaguely mixed commentary... it might be really funny, it might be stupid, depending on your tolerance for certain sorts of humor. However, it's a nice change from the standard 3D most recent adventures fall into, being more of a Western cartoon.

RPG Weekend Sale
at Good Old Games - 15% off for the weekend
I feel like I'm having to single-handedly fight the recession, all these games I've been buying lately! But I still haven't bought Sacred and this might be a good time to do it. On the other hand, 15% off of $9.99 isn't actually that much, so if I don't, no biggie...

to each their own
While I suspect this recent addition to the Good Old Games catalog is not for me, I have to be amused by certain details of the description and reader reviews.
or
or
Robinson's Requiem and Deus are survival games at their core, and they are even more brutal than many roguelikes. That is saying a hell of a lot.
or
I was quite impressed by the complexity of the world not to mention the attention to detail. Never before was your character able to contract all kinds of diseases and ailments.
or
The only game that allows a person to cut off all of their limbs! How could you not buy a game with a feature that awesome ;)

Ghost Master
Another title coming soon at Good Old Games which I remember reading reviews of when it first came out. Sounded like fun, although not really my sort of thing.
Still no release date listed for Sacred though. But it's nice to see a variety of quality titles still coming out.
